What is eyelid Tumours?

Eyelid tumors are abnormal growths that can appear on the eyelids. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). While benign tumors are more common, malignant eyelid tumors require prompt medical attention and treatment. Understanding the types, symptoms, and treatment options is crucial for managing these conditions effectively.

Symptoms of Eyelid Cancer

    • A persistent lump or bump on the eyelid
    • Changes in the size, shape, or color of an existing lesion
    • Ulceration or bleeding of the eyelid
    • Loss of eyelashes
    • Pain, tenderness, or discomfort in the affected area
    • Distortion or asymmetry of the eyelid

Treatment Options

  • Treatment for eyelid tumors depends on the type, size, location, and whether the tumor is benign or malignant. Options include:

    • Surgical Excision: Removal of the tumor with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure complete excision. This is the most common treatment for both benign and malignant tumors.
    • Mohs Surgery: A specialized surgical technique used for certain malignant tumors. It involves the step-by-step removal and microscopic examination of tissue until all cancerous cells are eliminated.
    • Radiation Therapy: Used in cases where surgery is not feasible or as an adjunct to surgery.
    • Cryotherapy: Freezing the tumor to destroy abnormal cells, often used for smaller benign tumors.
    • Topical Medications: Certain benign tumors may respond to topical treatments.
